Of Music and Lyrics

Perhaps as an only child, often times with no one to talk to, no cell phone, no facebook, no twitter, I was often fascinated by musical lyrics and have always thought there was some deeper between the lines meaning to everything. Could be why I have the ability at times to always associate an experience with a song, somewhere by someone, often obscure.

With the overall military theme of my blog some may find it hard to believe that I was sad to hear Amy Winehouse passed. I thought her album Back to Black was awesome, she had a great voice and vibe that took you back to places way before I was running the streets. RIP Amy.

Then there is this song from Wade Bowen that sort of says it all about lyrics and music:

Sometimes I get captured by the way a song sounds
It takes me inside and lifts me up off the ground
It can make you feel love like you’ve never felt before
Or it can make you cry and want to hide behind doors

For a song is more powerful that most people think
Go ahead and sit by the jukebox
And order up another drink

Chorus:
And try not to listen
Try not to hear the words
For that song that’s always haunted you
Is always gonna be heard
I hope you listen to my songs
I hope you listen to what I say
This song’s my life and that’s the reason
Oh the reason I was made

Sometimes I put some grit into it and sing it loud as I can
And I scream and yell at the crowd hoping that they understand
And sometimes they yell back and it’s as crazy as it can be
And I think to myself, what a hell of a life I lead

For a song is more powerful that most people think
Go ahead and sit by the jukebox
And order up another drink

Repeat Chorus

Sometimes it’s real slow and tender as it can be
And I look into your eyes and I wish you could see what I see
You may not want to listen, you may not like my style
But I promise you by the end of the night, there’s something you’re gonna realize

That a song is more powerful that most people think
Go ahead and sit by the jukebox
And order up another drink

But I have to tell you, quite possibly one of the most moving performances I've heard lately, if not ever was on the Howard Stern Show. I've been listening for 7 years and when he has musical artists you just have to pay attention because you might just hear genuis.

From someone I never have really cared to listen to no less...Lady Gaga. The Background story about her grandfather being on his death bed and her and her father doing tequila shots while she wrote this just made for..well..magic.

I'll past the video here, but Youtube likes to take them away for some reason so if it's gone, look for Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga on Howard Stern.

The version on the radio pales in comparison and if you were'nt a fan, you probably will be. Enjoy this... I did.

"Put on your shades because tonight I'll be dancing in the flames.."

Music and time lines.

When I fist got to Batt I was still listening to REM.

1992 - Driving to RTB with O'Dear in his freaking red Feirro is was the Chile Peppers - Under the Bridge

1993 - it was country and the theme was "The Whiskey Ain't Working Anymore" !

94 and points after is was White Zombie, Panterra, Tool, etc... with a good amount of Johnny Cash mixed it.

To this day a song can come on, I'll look at the wife and say - it was 1992 we were suiting up to go to xyz....

Guess I never follow these comments. Seems there is an old Hardrock Ranger posting? Or did you just hitch a ride with Odear?
