Runaway General and Introspection

Apparently according to the DOD report the majority of the things published by Rolling Stone were inaccurate. Perhaps POTUS should have kept the man he wanted to Run Afghanastan in charge until the report came out?

The entire event seemed a bit "Knee Jerk". I won't try and understand a man way more intelligent than I but it seems by not commenting on most of the questions Stan was ready to exit stage left. Perhaps he felt he was not being supported by his Commander and Chief, which I think would suprise no one.

Read the DOD Report Here.

I have come to a conclusion that many have heard me say. With regards to this generation of warriors and men like Stanley McChrystal and many of the Rangers I know, there are no equals. I have stated it in speeches, I have stated it here, I will debate this with any and all who ask, this is the next "Greatest Generation" with regards to taking the fight to the enemy. I'm not sure what greatness they will move onto, but my guess is many will become future leaders both in the business world as well.

I'll take nothing away from the other units either, you've seen me post many times I have the utmost respect for any and all who have served but the burden on Special Operations is a heavy one and it continues to grow. As evidenced by this article.

"The Pentagon is quietly deploying a new detachment of Army Rangers to Afghanistan, increasing the number of elite U.S. commandos on the ground there as the Obama administration prepares to begin withdrawing conventional forces from the country this summer, military officials told National Journal.

The officials said that more than 100 additional Rangers had arrived in Afghanistan recently to begin targeted operations against militants in eastern and southern Afghanistan. The Rangers, highly-trained soldiers from the Pentagon’s secretive Joint Special Operations Command, are being used to raid suspected insurgent safe houses and hunt down specific Taliban leaders."

After almost 10 years in contact with the enemy, I have decided that I have nothing in common with the modern day Ranger. My time pales in comparison. I have also come to believe that I became what I despised. Someone who was more interested in personal security and comfort than participating in the greater cause. I was and have been content to sit on the sidelines while other struggle mightly for the longest yard.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.' - John Stuart Mill
