2 Charlie Pride

The sun was rising in the east
Shining through the large oak trees which surround the hallowed ground
That is the Ranger Memorial.

The smell of fresh cut grass was in the air
The little girls all wore pretty dresses

Old Glory fluttered and popped in
A gentle Southern Breeze

In front of the large Sykes- Fairbairn dagger
That is the center piece of the memorial
The Rangers were called to attention
And the colors of the 3rd Ranger Bn stood beautifully next to
The American flag with all battle streamers on display
Like the ribbons in all the little girls hair

There against that back drop stood a dear friend and fierce
Warrior.

My heart swelled with pride as those colors and that Battallion
Were becoming his.

It took great effort and sacrifice to achive this goal

If only for a short time it is his, as someday he will pass
Those colors to another warrior who put forth similar effort
And sacrifice

He will leave it better than he received it

As we recited the Ranger Creed, the emotions were overwhelming
And tears were hard to hold back.

As the ceremony ended the sun was over the trees the sky a
Brilliant blue.

Families hugged, pictures were taken and the small children
Ran through that same fresh cut grass.

A moment I will freeze in time
If only in my mind.

Jurena.. Out
