Yes, it seems my promises continue to go unfullfilled and its been 6 months since I last posted. This is almost like a New Years resolution, or that promise to "never drink again" after a long Tequila night.
So, Blackwater finally, roughly 12 months later, let me know that with no time down range during the GWOT and a 10 year break in service and more importantly I think, a blemish on my record, that the DOS probably would not consider me for their program. So, I guess doors open and close for a reason and as I've mentioned, I've got a decent job so, I'll move on.
James continues to do good things with DynCorp and has said he can get on with them. Total compensation is roughly 3 times my current base so I'm waiting to hear back from him on that and then I guess I'll make my final decision. I straddle the fence. Some days, I know its time to move on from Telecom. Other days, the status quo, which is the path of least resistance is the most attractive. My mother says its my mid life crisis. Who knows, what I know is its mentally keeping me up at nights. Crazy, some men go chasing fast women or buy a fast car, I'm trying to head to a war zone.
The last 6 months have been pretty tame. Work, work and more work. Spent Memorial Day weekend in Colombus Texas with about 30 other Rangers drinking beer, shooting guns and blowing things up. It is always great to be around men who have traveled down the same path, faced the same challenges and come out on the other side. Nothing like that in the civilian sector. Phoenix is hot, but overall a decent town. Erica did fine her first year in college and Jared is still trying to find his way in the world. Okay, so here goes.. I'll post more often.
